Coloplast develops products and services that make life easier for people with very personal and private medical conditions. Working closely with the people who use the products, Coloplast create solutions that are sensitive to their customers special needs.

Approach
CIID was asked to help develop early stage concepts for a new generation of medical products for Coloplast. Starting with the experiences of users of both the client’s and competitor products in Denmark, Italy, and India to give a grounding in users’ everyday lives, the team quickly prototyped a wide range of ideas, from incremental improvements over existing solutions to radical departures.

Interviews and co-creation sessions gave the client fast and actionable feedback on the ideas embodied in the prototypes, ensuring that through rapid iteration, the concepts could meet users’ real needs as well as solve engineering challenges.

Outcome
CIID produced a landscape of prototyped ideas that were grounded and showed potential for further development through user involvement. Furthermore, by introducing these fast methods and user-centered approaches to the client, it helped build an innovation culture and strengthen their in-house capability to develop solutions which better meet user needs and are successful in the marketplace.
